Subject: Arsenal AGM

Dear Gooners,

FYI. I got this from the coordinator of the Arsenal Independent
Supporters Association.

Arsenal AGM report
There has been some innacurate media coverage regarding some of
Arsene's comments. What actually happened was a shareholder asked a

(a) why don't we buy more English players - is it that they cost more
(b) were we in for Defoe, Carrick and Robinson when they were available
(c) and if they didn't work out wouldn't we have got our money back anyway

Wenger, who answered the question in a different order, said:

(c) we don't buy players to sell them on; only if we really believe
they have a chance of success at Arsenal (laughter, applause)

(b) but yes we were interested in all three players, some more
seriously than others (not his exact words). As regards Carrick
(implication he was the one he was most interested in) felt in the end
he was too similar to Vieira (then made a crack about not knowing
Vieira would be leaving) - also agreed that the prices were reasonable
(didn't comment on salaries which is I think where English players
cost much more).

(a) said that there is a benefit of English players in that they are
more likely to stay, but that in the end "he didn't decide on
passports" (ie. nationality) but on "values - we have special values
at Arsenal that I want everyone to share - players, supporters and
directors, so I want players who have those values, or join at an age
where they can adopt them (again not exact words).

Partly, IMO, refers to drinking culture, different work ethics,
attitudes, off-field activity etc.

You can only be called SIR if you are a British citizen...in others
words, one of the Queen's subjects, as the term is popularly known.

Non-Brits can also receive an honorary knighthood, but cannot call
themselves SIR. If England were to win WC2006, you can bet that Sven
will get it too, if he's still the manager of course! ;-)

FYI, there were a few Malaysian citizens who could call themselves
SIR, but that's because they were knighted before Merdeka, when Malaya
was part of the British empire.

And that's your history lesson for the day! :-)

BTW, Gooners, don't forget the Buka Puasa event this Saturday at Hotel
Midah, and the BIG match against North London rivals Tottenham.
The match kicks-off at 8pm, so that's just right timing to buka puasa,
enjoy the excellent buffet spread at the LOWEST RATE of any hotel in
KL and PJ, and then watch the all-important match.

The buffet is only RM29++. As the DPM said, hotels shouldn't take
advantage of bulan Ramadhan and overcharge patrons. So, it's nice to
see Hotel Midah already applying that even before his comments.

Please sms or call Marcus at 012-2299068 or email to
arsenal.my@gmail.com , as we need to know the numbers attending the
Buka Puasa.

Selamat Berpuasa to all our Muslim GOONERS.

Thanks. Take care and God bless.
